Roy Frank Mitte III was born in Jackson, Mississippi, with brain damage from a difficult delivery, and was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at three. He spent most of his childhood in leg braces and on crutches, and by his teens didn't need either. When he was fourteen a casting director in Los Angeles was looking for a teenager with cerebral palsy to play the son of a chemistry teacher in a show about methamphetamine; he got the part, and for five seasons of Breaking Bad he was Walter White Jr., the one person in that family who never lied. He was thirty-four when he died at his home in Brownsville, Texas.
After the show he kept acting (Switched at Birth, The Guardians of Justice, a run of independent films, two of which came out this year) and modeled for Gap and walked for Vivienne Westwood. He spent at least as much time being the person people with disabilities pointed to: a Screen Actors Guild spokesman for actors with disabilities, an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children's, president of his own foundation, and a speaker at universities about what it was like to be cast for a disability and then to be more than it.
He is survived by his mother, Dyna, and his sister, Lacianne, both of whom he supported.

On Sunday, October 12, 2026, his mother, Dyna Mitte, could not reach him by phone and went to his home in Brownsville, Texas, where she found him. He was pronounced dead at 1:32 p.m. He was 34.
His representative confirmed that evening that he had died by suicide. His mother has said that he left no note, and that she had been encouraging him for months to go to therapy. Co-stars from Breaking Bad, including Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul, released statements the same week.
On November 5, Page Six reported that a Cameron County document listed the official cause of death as suicide. Toxicology results have not been released. Nothing further about the circumstances has been made public, and this page does not carry it.
